Finally, researchers have an answer, what women want when it comes to men? |
Height partner really matter in a relationship, at least in women, according to a study by US researchers, who have found that they prefer taller partners because thus feel more feminine and more protected. Researchers at Rice University and the University of North Texas analyzed, beginning a series of profiles taken from the sites of meetings, then experiment asked participants to complete a questionnaire online. After the experiment, they found that current theories, according to which people seek partners with a similar height might not be true. "Our study shows that, in terms of physical characteristics such as height, dominant likeness is not the rule, especially for women," said Michael Emerson, a sociology professor and coauthor of the study. According to available data, the main reasons invoked by women for choosing a partner were high that, alongside this, feel more feminine and more protected. The study, entitled " height matter? An examination of preferences of height in romantic relationships ", was conducted in two parts. In the first part, researchers analyzed the height preferences regarding the persons seeking a partner profile sites - 455 men and 470 women in the United States. According to the survey, only 13.5% of men wanted to have romantic encounters with women shorter, while almost half of women - 48.9% - wanted to have such meetings with a man taller. In the second part of the study, 54 men and 131 women, recruited from an American university, completed an online questionnaire, which allows an infinite number of answers, and the results have confirmed the discovery of the first part of the study. Thus, only 37% of male respondents answered they want to meet with shorter women, while 55% of women said they want to have encounters with men taller. George Yancey, a sociology professor at the University of North Texas and led the study, believes that preferences regarding height is explained by expectations of traditional society and stereotypes of gender difference. "The ability of men to provide physical protection is clearly linked to the stereotypes of men are considered protective. And in a society that encourages men to be dominant and women undergoing the image of a tall man with a woman shorter reaffirms the value" said George Yancey.
